Kaylan Patel, a rising eighth-grader at Windermere Preparatory School, placed in the Top 10 in the National Geography Bee National Championship, sponsored by the National Geographic Society and held recently in Washington, D.C.

This year, 2.2 million students started the competition process in December; Kaylan was the Florida representative in D.C.

Kaylan has won the school bee four times and back-to-back 2018 and 2019 Florida state bee championships. Both years, he beat out more than 600,000 students from Florida to represent the state at the competition. Only one student from each state goes to the nationals.
He also received the Dynamic Storyteller Award from the National Geographic Society for his eloquent speaking abilities.

Kaylan is the son of Dr. Niral and Dr. Tejal Patel.
