When it came down to crunch time, Windermere High (23-4) had the answers in their wild 4-3 walk-off win in the FHSAA regional quarterfinals over Lake Howell (12-12) on Wednesday, May 15.
Going into the bottom of the seventh the Wolverines found themselves down 3-2, Dayton Romig kicked off the rally with a single. Then Gustavo Mendez stepped to the plate and drove a ball into the outfield for the RBI-double to tie the game up at 3-3. Owen Flynn would come in as a pinch runner for Mendez.
What followed next was the most clutch hit of the season, as Tyler Ostendorf fired a laser down the third baseline to bring in Romig for the game-winning run and pushed the Wolverines into the regional semifinal against Hagerty on Saturday, May 18.
On the mound for the Wolverines pitchers Carson Montgomery and Bryce Hubbart would combine for 11 strikeouts through seven full innings.
