The West Orange girls water polo team's 8-0 lead through the first three quarters was too much to overcome for Windermere, as the Warriors went on to defeat the Wolverines 14-6 Tuesday, Feb. 3.
A big part of that early surge was the offensive prowess of Lani Mackay, who notched four goals — one in the first quarter, three in the third — for the Warriors. Teammate Ella Putigna added three goals herself, while Haley Keyes, Samantha Soto and Marta Gorzen added on two goals apiece. Leah Hughes accounted for a goal as well.
Windermere wouldn't go silently, however, as the Wolverines mounted a bit of a rally toward the end of the third quarter when the Wolverines picked up three-straight goals to end the quarter. The Warriors would answer back and hold on for the 14-6 win.
