Healthy West Orange Arts and Heritage Center at the Town of Oakland is signing up volunteers now for the center, which is scheduled to open this spring. Volunteers are needed to assist in various roles.

The space is nearly 3,000 square feet and is under construction near Oakland Town Hall. The town hopes to attract visitors by offering a dynamic, educational experience dedicated to regional history, art and wellness. Volunteers can help the center promote its mission.

Opportunities to work as docents are available for both adults and students ages 16 to 18 seeking community service hours. Duties include greeting visitors, answering questions, folding brochures and collating mailings, data entry, and special projects and events.

Initial operating hours, divided into morning and afternoon shifts, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Volunteer applications are available at Town Hall, 230 N. Tubb St. All applicants must consent to a criminal background check.
