PHOTOS: Windermere beats Dr. Phillips in an explosive 13-10 district win

It was an afternoon of big-time offense in Windermere High's 13-10 win over Dr. Phillips in district play Wednesday, March 11.

Right from the opening pitch it felt as though Windermere would take off for the easy win, when the Wolverines put up five runs in the first two innings of play, while pitcher Carson Montgomery kept the Panthers at bay with two scoreless innings.

In the third inning Dr. Phillips (6-4) would finally get things going offensively when Dallas Davis scored on a wild pitch, before a sac fly and RBI-single cut the Wolverines' lead to 5-3. A two-RBI double by Brandon Fields later on in the fourth inning saw the Panthers tie the game up at 5-5. Fields would go on to finish the day going 3-for-4 in five plate appearances with two-RBIs, while scoring two runs.

The Wolverines (4-5) would respond in kind in the bottom of the fourth with three more runs to push ahead 8-5. In the inning Damien Goulart would get one of his team high four RBIs on the day, while Jason Grant picked up one of his five hits in a 5-for-5 outing.

After exchanging runs in the fifth inning — one for DP and two for Windermere — both teams saw three runs cross the plate in the sixth inning. In the top of the inning Daniel Castaneda hit an RBI-double, before a sac fly and RBI-single by Cooper Mills cut the Wolverines' lead to 10-9. Once again Windermere responded just as they had before, this time with an RBI single by Dallas Dale, a fielder's choice and a wild pitch that brought Dale in to make it 13-9.

Dr. Phillips would get one last run in when Luis Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh, but the Panthers' rally would fall short in the end with a 13-10 loss.

On the mound Montgomery would go a full three innings for the Wolverines — picking up five strikeouts and three walks, while giving up one earned run on two hits — but it would be Nick Walzac who would ultimately get the win. For Dr. Phillips, Ivan Vanbeverhoudt was handed the loss.

Up next for the Wolverines is a home matchup with Barron Collier Friday, March 13, while the Panthers will look to bounce back in a home game against Fletcher the same day.
