Bicyclist dies in hit-and-run crash

Florida Highway Patrol investigators are searching for a silver 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators are searching for the driver responsible for hitting and killing a bicyclist Monday, Aug. 15, on Kirkman Road near Orla Vista.

According to FHP reports, at about 8:27 p.m., a driver of an unknown vehicle was traveling southbound on Kirkman Road south of Washington Street in the inside lane. A 60-year-old female bicyclist also was in the inside southbound lane on Kirkman; it is unknown if she was riding or walking the bicycle.

An unknown portion of the vehicle struck the bicyclist. After the collision, the driver fled the scene. The bicyclist was transported to Health Central Hospital and pronounced deceased.

Although there were no eyewitnesses, traffic homicide investigators found a car part in the area of the collision. Investigators currently are looking for a silver 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara that could possibly be involved in the crash. The car should have front left damage and missing a car part from the left front door, lower door panel.
