Less than a month after the school year began, students already have an unexpected day off.

Orange County Public Schools officials have canceled classes and after-school activities for Wednesday, Aug. 30, in preparation for Idalia’s arrival.

Likewise, Foundation Academy also has canceled school for Aug. 30, with plans to resume classes Thursday, Aug. 31. The First Academy and Windermere Preparatory School have not announced plans yet.

The determining factor is a forecast for sustained wind speeds more than 35 mph. That is the threshold for buses to operate safely on the roads.

The current projected sustained wind speeds for the western parts of Orange County may exceed 35 mph.

Information regarding make-up days will be forthcoming, OCPS officials said.
