UPDATE, 8 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17
According to a GoFundMe fundraiser set up for the family, the 14-year-old boy suffered a severe brain injury. He was rushed into surgery, which took longer than expected because of the severity of the injuries. He currently is in critical condition at the ICU at Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children.

"I am setting this up due to an overwhelming response from the community asking how to help him and his family during this tough time," wrote the boy's aunt, Phuong Yuhas, on the fundraiser page. "His parents will need to miss work, and they also have a daughter to care for, so anything would help. We truly appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers. Thank you all so much — especially those that were at the scene with him."

Emergency crews airlifted a teenage boy just before 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, following a hit-and-run crash on Winter Garden Vineland Road near Tilden Road in Winter Garden.

According to Facebook accounts of the incident, the teen was riding a skateboard when he was hit by a car. The driver of the car did not stop to render aid or call for help. Witnesses said the boy sustained a neck injury and was taken via helicopter to a hospital.

Traffic was stopped along the route while emergency crews responded to the boy.

Police are attempting to gather surveillance footage from security cameras at nearby businesses, including the 7-Eleven at 4200 Winter Garden Vineland Road, Winter Garden.
