AdventHealth Winter Garden has become the first hospital in Central Florida to receive accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery.

Dr. Miles Bennett, chief medical officer at AdventHealth Winter Garden, said the achievement showcases the hospital's commitment to providing the highest standard of care to its hernia patients.

“We are proud to receive this certification, which validates our commitment to our patients' health and safety," he said in a press release.

Dr. Alexander Schroeder, general surgeon and co-director of the hernia center at AdventHealth Winter Garden, said hernias affect the patients' quality of life.

“The hernia center puts the focus on the patient as a whole," he said in the press release.

The certification, issued by the Surgical Review Corporation, recognizes the hospital’s high standard of quality patient care and safety.

Health care facilities seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets the organization's proven standards and requirements.

The requirements include, surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education, and continuous quality assessment.

Inspectors also educate staff in the accredited departments on best practices to help an organization improve its care and services.

“We’re proud to recognize AdventHealth Winter Garden for its commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC, said in the press release. “This accreditation signals that this facility is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”
