Oakland Nature Preserve continues its series of summertime guided walks this weekend.

The Journey into the Uplands walk takes place from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday May 31, at the preserve, 747 Machete Trail, Oakland.

Have you ever wondered why the Oakland Nature Preserve focuses on restoring the Uplands trails? Or who was living in Central Florida before the Europeans? How about, what makes gopher tortoises so important?

Join ONP’s volunteer docents for a guided walk through the preserve’s Uplands trails to discover the “Real Florida.”

Attendees will explore the significance of the Uplands ecosystems, point out some unique plants and animals, and dive into our Native American history.

Please dress for the weather, with sun and bug protection. ONP also recommends close-toed shoes, a hat and reusable water bottle. In case of inclement weather,

Cost is $5 for non-members, free for members.

Future walks are scheduled for June 14 and 28, and July 12 and 26.

Pre-registration required, limited spaces available. Register and learn more program information here.
