Ocoee begins local Memorial Day observances Thursday, May 21, with its Memorial Day Ceremony. Retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Elizabeth Bledsoe will speak at the ceremony, which begins at 11 a.m. at Ocoee Lakeshore Center, 125 N. Lakeshore Drive, Ocoee.

Bledsoe completed a 20-year career in the U.S. Army. As a signal corps officer, she was dedicated to military communications and served in various assignments with the 11th Signal Brigade.

In addition to the keynote speaker, the Ocoee Police Department Honor Guard will present the colors, and the national anthem will be performed. The ceremony will include a processional to the Ocoee Memorial Wall. The Memorial Wall is inscribed with the names of Ocoee residents who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their country. Ocoee Mayor Rusty Johnson and city commissioners will recite the names of each fallen soldier. Taps will also be performed.
