UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol has Ocoee Police Officer Chris Bonner for failing to obey traffic laws in the May 12 crash that injured him and another driver. That story can be found here.

OCOEE In the wake of Ocoee Police Officer Chris Bonner's serious injuries sustained from a car accident May 12, the police department has created a GoFundMe site to help him and his family as he recovers.

Bonner, 29, was in pursuit of a fleeing stolen vehicle whose occupants were suspected of committing armed robberies at 4:50 a.m. that morning when a car driven by Yahaira Castro Montalvo entered the intersection. Bonner struck Montalvo's vehicle at a high rate of speed; his vehicle then hit a fire hydrant and pole. Both drivers sustained serious injuries and were transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Bonner, who has been with the department for six years, will need several surgeries to repair injuries sustained in the crash. Ocoee PD is raising funds through GoFundMe to help the family as Bonner recovers. The fundraising goal is $5,000. As of Tuesday afternoon, total funds raised totaled $2,220.

To donate to Bonner's medical fund, visit his GoFundMe page here.
