HORIZON WEST — The Windermere High softball team scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and Holly Heath pitched a complete-game in a 4-2 victory for the Wolverines over nearby Olympia Feb. 23.
The win was the second of the week for the brand-new varsity program — Windermere had defeated Wekiva 15-5 Feb. 21 — improving the Wolverines to 2-1 on the young season.
"The best feeling is to see them get better every day," head coach Eileen Hannigan said. "Ultimately, that's what we're trying for — every game getting a little bit better."
Olivia Lovins drove in two runs and scored once, leading the way on offense for Windermere.
Seven Wolverines recorded hits on the day, impressing their coach.
"Today, the thing we're happy about is quality at-bats," Hannigan said. "I'm really happy with their at-bats today against a quality pitcher who was throwing well."
For Olympia (2-2), Caryssa Orland led the way with three hits, an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound, Megan Wilder struck out six in six innings of work.
